Carapace ornamented with a strong, scale-like sculpturation. Antennal plate narrow, unarmed. With stridulating organ. First pair of legs enlarged in males, ending in subchelae, with wide, red crossbands. Abdomen brick red, with 4 or 5 conspicuous transverse grooves on each somite and with yellowish spots and stripes.
Type Species: by original designation: Palinurus longimanus H. Milne Edwards, 1837.
The genus includes three species, none of which so far is of commercial importance; the possibility that they will everbe of interest to fisheries is very slim.
